I’m not positive the officers “came under fire” by the homeowners.
They broke in and shot the dog. When the wife tried to intervene, they used the tired claim that she “reached for the officer’s gun” to give the police gang permission to unload.
I haven’t heard any conclusive evidence that the husband fired, other than the police story, which has been pretty much blown apart. It almost certain that at least some of the police injuries were friendly fire.
I think the neighbors heard a shot coming from the house well after the incident, which could have been the police firing the gun to cover up their mistakes.
No real forensic evidence was done on the scene, a representative of the estate came by after the event, and there were still bullets in the walls.
