My Grandmother and my great aunt didn’t drive being raised up in the sticks in Tennessee in the early 20th. They were excellent horsewomen though. My cousin (a stock car racer) taught my great Aunt to drive (bad idea) and bought her a V8 Ford Falcon. They terrorized the entire neighborhood for years. Scared me to death too, dipping Honeybee Sweet snuff doing 80MPH on highway 70.
Neither of my husband’s grandmothers drove, but both of mine did.
Mine worked outside of the home until children were born, or prior to marriage they had to get a job.
Scary, but at least it wasn’t a Corvair! I loved those Falcons, my girlfriend had one.
