That was a fascinating article. Thanks for posting. I remember my mom telling me when she grew up in New Jersey (born 1924) most of the boys knew how to crochet and they would sit in their front stoops.

Beau knows how to knit, though he doesn’t do it often. He’s full Norwegian, so I think it’s genetically wired in from their fishing-net-making ancestors. ;)

He’s also an exceptional knot-smith; he loves making dog leads and lanyards and that kind of stuff.

That’s a great talent. I also taught a crochet class for beginners - 10 year old and up level for our homeschool group years ago. A boy joined and I got him excited about all the things he could make like fish nets. I used to watch Survivor, like 15 years ago. I wondered why someone did not wear a bulky poly cord sweater and then after they were dropped off, deconstruct it into string and make a crochet hook and make a net for fish. Having a fishing net right away would be a good bonus and a head start.
I just don’t knit, I can but it’s always awkward - the 2 needle thing. I have a friend that uses 4 skinny needles and make these incredible thin stretchy socks that are just amazing. 4 needles at a time. Crazy.
