This aluminum panel was found back in 1991, TIGHAR has said for years that they thought it was most likely a part of her airplane. I believe this is the most likely theory of what happened to Amelia and her navigator Fred Noonan, that they landed on that island and later perished. The theory made sense, they were lost and Noonan would of headed south where lots of small islands were and they landed or crash landed because they were low on fuel.

I saw a documentary in which they showed a picture of what appeared to be her plane on a Japanese warship, and another shot of what appeared to be her sitting on the edge of a dock, in Japanese custody.
I don’t know if we’ll ever know for sure what really happened…

The piece was supposedly from a repair made to the Electra following an accident on earlier attempt at flight
