Alcoholism can cause mental and emotional illness, and plenty of mentally/emotionally ill people choose to be alcohols and do drugs. Nobody twisted their arms to do either substance. They aren't victims. They are willing participants.

Either way, kicking dirt on dead people is unnecessary, and low class.
