“Much of leftist policy is trying to insulate people from the consequences of their own actions.”

This is the result of a mindset on the left that goes something like this.

We have no control of how we were made. The body we have the mind we have is what it is. And it’s what we use for decisions and actions we take.

So since I have no control over what I am, how can you possibly hold me responsible for what I do, both the good and the bad?

Therefore I should not be punished for the bad I do, nor given credit for the good.

I’m just a machine with certain given abilities that reacts to the various stimuli that I’m immersed in.

If that’s the case then the concept of personal responsibility goes out the window and with it the idea that people deserve to be punished for their crime or given credit for their achievements - they were both preprogrammed.

So if punishment for something that is out of your control is unjust, on what grounds can we justify imposing suffering, or giving credit to anyone?

Yep, that’s how they see it.
