Op-Ed: Free food for all? Absolutely. In this age of abundance, it should be a human right ["If some processing plants, distribution warehouses and retailers were owned by government"]

One way to do that would be to restructure some food companies, distribution warehouses and retailers as a public utility, like how the energy grid, sewers and water delivery are managed. If some processing plants, distribution warehouses and retailers were owned by government, they could use subsidies to buy grains, legumes like beans and meat directly from farmers, and the resulting goods could be made available free to everyone. Programs could alternatively take the form of universal school meals and open-to-all cafeterias that serve meals throughout the day.

Even public utilities require customers to pay for the utilities. Yes, there are subsidies, etc. but utilities don’t provide stuff for free.

Big Pharma should love it. Obesity is good business for them.

Regular food, improperly stored, and infested with insects would do, in a government run operation.

It would be nice if the LA Times would do some real investigating and look into the suspicious number of food processing plants that are burning down.
Maybe all those immigrants aren't from Mexico and South America.

If some people get things they don’t pay for, other people pay for things they don’t get. No way around this fact.

Rice, beans, flour, gov’t cheese and margarine. A couple of stapled pages on how to cook these.

I think these idiots need to (1) speak to immigrants from communist and social countries that had/have similar state ownership, and (2) need to study some history. If they want state ownership of things, why don’t they move to countries that have this?

Wonder if they know this has been tried and failed every time.
Quickest route to starvation is let the gubmint control any part of the food supply.

If you are entitled to free food then you are entitled to someone else’s free labor to produce that food. This type of attitude always ends up with someone toiling in the fields at the wrong end of a gun. Always.

How do these idiots think this "Age of Abundance" happened? Do they ever stop to wonder why the Soviets didn't have their own "Age of Abundance"?

Food is "abundant" because people work for it. When people stop working for it and demand it for free, it stops being "abundant". Why do we need to keep explaining basic facts like this to socialists while they stare uncomprehendingly?
