That would allow most people with no retirement savings at all to still have a comfortable life after 70 provided they work part time after that.
Not that I advocate not saving for retirement. But for those that for one reason or other were not able to save, they still have an opportunity to have a decent lifestyle after 70. Provided they are disciplined enough to wait until 70 before claiming their SSA benefits and are healthy enough to work a part time job after that.
That seems to be pretty much what I’m going to do. I do have a 401(k), but it doesn’t have enough to sustain me in retirement, and it seems to be turning into a 201(k) lately.
I’m going to try to go full-time up to 72, which is the new cut-off where you have to start taking distributions from a retirement plan. At that point, if I must start taking distributions, I might as well retire and start collecting my maxed-out SS (what remains of it) as well, with the part-time job, of course.
