Sounds like a great vet! Glad your son and wife found kitties to love who were in need of it.

There are people out there who would rather, or just as soon, adopt from an individual as a shelter and give the pets good homes. I was always able to find good homes for strays when I couldn’t take them in myself.

Nowadays, some of the rescues charge really high fees, even for senior pets, and erect a lot of hurdles (long intrusive questionnaires , letter of recommendation from vet, home inspection — often all three). Even the best prospective pet owner might balk at all that, and those who live some distance away cannot adopt from them because of the home inspection requirement , as the rescue’s inspectors will only consider travelling inside a very small area.

While my cat was just a kitten, I went thru all that BS and paid out $170. Never again.

It's getting to to be a profitable endeavor for these so called pet rescue groups........

I rent a house on 70 acres. People dump cats and I'm now a widow on SS. Boy, do I have stories! I've had really bad experiences with rescues. I've been insulted that I was just too lazy to take care of MY cats and was lying that they were strays, was told to stop mooching and find a Vet that does work for free or a reduced rate, was yelled at by a rescue who promised help and when I called her was told she'd just had a car accident and I was being heartless asking her for help. It goes on and on.

I now have 6 cats left. The 7th had cancer at only 7 years old and I used my fuel oil money to have her euthanized. It was awful. She was an exceptionally sweet baby. I've stopped asking for help.
