What a Turkey! Hateful MSNBC Anchor Joy Reid Trashes Thanksgiving as a “Simplistic Fairytale” and Says America Was “Founded on Violence”

Millions of Americans today will gather around the kitchen table to celebrate Thanksgiving with their families. For Joy Reid, though, this is just another day to bash our beloved nation.

Reid opened her show last night by acknowledging Thanksgiving is a day of “cherished traditions” for millions of Americans who also enjoy “turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie.” But then she said this:

“But it is also to unpack the myth of Thanksgiving. It is a holiday riddled with historical inaccuracies. It is built on this myth that the indigenous welcomed their colonizers with open arms and ears of corn. A simplistic fairytale interpretation of a 1621 encounter between indigenous tribes and English settlers that erases the genocide that followed.

It’s the truth that Republicans want banned from our textbooks. Because here is the secret they want so desperately to keep: we are a country founded on violence. Our birth was violent. In 1619, a ship with more than 20 enslaved Africans landed in Virginia ushering in two centuries of American slavery that left millions in chains or dead.”

None of this should surprise Gateway Pundit readers. In addition to her loathing of America, Reid has a long history of unabashed racism as well. The Gateway Pundit in January wrote about her ripping white Christian conservatives. Here is the video of her lashing out:

There is no excuse for slavery of any kind. That said, the Africans who sold other Africans into slavery are a very important part of the history of slave trade.

Slavery existed throughout history. White men did not invent it. But Christian white men did more to eradicate it than any other group in history.

Yes, there are many historic events which should cause angst among the liberals. They should realize how bad their own history is, based on their own criteria .

Most Indian tribes were frequently at war with other tribes, for land control, slaves, horses, or just for the hell of it.

Ungrateful horrible demon who can’t understand normal thinking. Her African parents came here and she was given a life of luxury and success 99.9999999% of all humans in existence could not have ever imagined.

That's an incredible account of your family history. Very sad, except your last line.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. :-)

Slavery was a step up from killing and eating the conquered.

Modern folk don't seem able to understand that, centuries and millennia ago, societies didn't have the resources to deal with swarms of migrating peoples moving into the area in any other way.

Regards,

Joy Reid’s father was from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and her mother a college professor and nutritionist from Guyana. After her engineer father divorced her mother, she lived with her mother until age 17, when her mother died from cancer. I am sure this built much resentment even though she worked her way for a degree at Harvard.

I ask, what kind of mentality causes one to hate the country that gave her the ability to study at Harvard? What in her studies gave her such a warped vision of America’s difficult beginnings? Perhaps it was a lapse of Harvard to give the true picture.

America never invented slavery, it practiced slavery that was a system created early in man’s history. Africa became a source of slaves for the cultures of the Mediterranean world many centuries before the discovery of the Americas. Muslims took slavery, as a result of conquest and spoils, and institutionalized it. Arab slavers continued to enslave Africans well into the first decades of the 20th century. Even to this day, Arab slavers are still at work in Sudan and Mauritania, buying and selling black Africans.

Joy Reid should credit America for ending this tragic institution. A large credit should go to Christianity that regarded it as sin and all men are born in God’s favor. She should thank the Americans that sacrificed much life to liberate those enslaved human beings through the use of the musket and the cannon.

Joy Reid wants to insert slavery into Thanksgiving in the name of historical accuracy. Does she also support keeping Christ in Christmas?

Should blacks in modern America be grateful for descending from the early black slaves, or would their heritage be better served if they had been born in modern Africa? Is the world a better place because of those “colonizers”, or would it be better if he USA had never been founded?

Why were the various tribes native to the Americas not flourishing enough to be spreading toward the east and seeking distant lands to accommodate their growth?

Without Europeans, wouldn’t the less violent Indian tribes have been assimilated or destroyed by the more violent ones? Wasn’t that already happening?

Does Joy Reid think America would have been less violent if Muslims had conquered Europe?

Does Reid think that the primitive tribes living in the Americas were entitled to ALL of the land and natural resources here? Does she think that even the natives thought it all belonged to them? Had they staked claims on all of it?

Joy’s facts are wrong. The blacks who landed in 1619 were considered indentured servants, who were set free after 4 to 7 years. One such was Anthony Johnson.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Johnson_(colonist)

“Johnson was granted a large plot of farmland by the colonial government after he paid off his indentured contract by his labor.[10] On July 24, 1651, he acquired 250 acres (100 ha) of land under the headright system by buying the contracts of five indentured servants, one of whom was his son Richard Johnson. The headright system worked in such a way that if a man were to bring indentured servants over to the colonies (in this particular case, Johnson brought the five servants), he was owed 50 acres a “head”, or servant.[11]”

Anthony Johnson, the black African immigrant who made out well as a free black in Virginia, holds the honor of introducing chattel slavery to Virginia

In 1655, a Virginia court declared that John Casor, Johnson’s indentured servant, was to be considered indentured for life to Johnson.

Joy Reid’s father was from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and her mother a college professor and nutritionist from Guyana.

A great many Freepers do not know this fact about Reid. They think she is a multi-generational black American, when she clearly is not, but she passes herself off as one, with the anger toward America and all of that rot.

If they did know this, the outrage would be ten-fold here. The gaul that an immigrant or someone from immigrant parents has such disdain for America...

Slavery? What the hell does she think about the sex traders that are importing young people across our southern border.

Bring them in, keep them drugged up, sell them for sex until their bodies break, and then turn them out on the streets.

I don’t know but it was referred as Fort Roads/Rhodes, in the Shenandoah Valley, referred to as the Tom’s Creek massacre, (Luray) so it seems unlikely because it was pretty far south. It is described as the last attack by Indians in Virginia.
