Speaking of Sirius... Have you looked at it the last few nights. WOW. It is putting on a show. And nice views of Mars and Jupiter.
__
Mars and Jupiter are spectacular, like we have two Christmas stars, a white one and a red one. Sirius B is too far away from Sirius A to become a type 1a supernova but Sirius A is very close, ~8.6 ly.

I watched the video and it’s a good review of undergraduate astronomy. The animations would be a great visualization tool for class. The illustration of the electron degeneracy in the core of a dying star was well done. The electrons merge with protons to become neutrons and emit neutrinos. As the core collapses into a neutron star, material falling towards the core rebounds and with the help from a flood of neutrinos, an explosion is initiated.

The evidence for a direct hit from a GRB (Gamma Ray Burster) 2.6 million ybp is interesting. A GRB is the result of Earth being aligned with a polar axis of a collapsing star. Powerful jets escape from the rotating star via its polar axis during the collapse and the energy is directed towards the Earth; evidence: iron-60.

Supernova explosions seeded the universe with all of the elements necessary for life. But the heaviest elements like gold were created during neutron star mergers where there was a neutron rich environment.

I went to brilliant.org/veritasium, a few simple courses are free but the more interesting ones cost $30 per month. The phrase “you can get started for free right now” is not entirely correct.

And now I’m passing through,
The one who’s known as you,
And yet you’ll never know I do.

Mars is slowly easing westerly in the night sky here on The Jersey Shore. It looks nice in my 6 inch Newtonian refactor.

Orion looks spectacular too. The Atlantic Ocean is about eight miles due east of my back door and in the Fall , Winter and early Spring there’s never any light pollution. But it’s party cloudy tonight.
