In my high school freshman lab science class, my eccentric teacher showed us just how magnesium would burn. He lit the end of a strip of magnesium, and that thing burned brighter than the sun!
We learned that on our own. :)
Putting the strips in high molarity acids was also fun.
We were at least smart enough to do it under the hood.
Icicle Brook road is a loop off South Arm road beside SOuth Arm of richardson Lake in northeastern Maine.
It is one of the toughest rally stages in North America.
When we went in, the lead ham radioed to watch out for a rock on the inside of a curve.
Everybody else drove around it, I went over it, well, because I can.
At that time I realized it was a perfect ramp for putting a car on two wheels or rolling it over.
Right in front of a spectator area, where the VIP bus and a lot of spectators were, Ken Block hit it at high speed.
They went airborne, rolling in the air and landed right side up on the opposite side of the road.
The car burst into flames, he and his navigator bailed, the navigator grabbing one of the inside cameras.
If you search Youtube with "Ken Block NEFR fire" and scroll down a little, you'll find the video of the roll from inside the car.
We had to wait for several hours to leave for all of the magnesium to burn itself out.
