I think u are right. I listened to his music back in the day and loved it but never really checked into his politics.
I just did and see many examples where he supported liberals such as Hillary in 2016. It reads he even modified many of his songs to support Dems/attack repubs:

Sure will never buy a dime of his music again. Or eat at his overpriced Burger Joint either.
