This actually puts me in mind of one Arminius. He was a German kid, son of a tribal chief. The Romans took him as a hostage, to ensure the Germans behaved themselves like good little conquered people. The Romans trained Arminius to be a soldier. He became a decorated cavalry commander in their service. Then they sent him to Germany, thinking his knowledge of the country would serve them well. Arminius led a revolt of the tribes, and they slaughtered 3 Roman legions and accompanying auxilia and civilians, to a man. Prisoners were sacrificed to their gods. Roman lawyers had their tongues cut out, and their mouths sewn shut before execution....
