A contrarian view is that the gay lobby has overstated the facts because it’s really all about them, but they want to make it sound like Qatar is a terrible place. These gulf states have built up impressive little countries out of nothing and like to sponsor big sporting events (more regularly golf as one example). I read some place that the “thousands” of dead workers, for example, is a conflation of everyone from foreign countries who happened to die in Qatar (a very busy place) and the actual number of dead construction workers is something like three on the job and twenty-nine who died not working on the stadiums (but of natural causes or in traffic accidents etc).
As to corruption, now there’s a surprise, FIFA (or the IOC etc) and various governments doing deals behind closed doors. Let’s be honest about this, if Trump made some deals that would be MAGA, if some Arab emir makes a deal, that’s corruption. Some of this stuff is just word play. I get the feeling this is a big facade for the gay lobby trying to shame Muslim countries because of their strict interpretations of their particular sacred texts, whether you or I agree with those texts or not, we have recently stopped doing exactly the same thing based on Biblical texts. So who is really the bad guy in all this?
That is ALL this is about. Pushing an agenda on country that is supposedly sovereign with their own culture. At one time we were told we were to respect them and not force western culture on them, but now apparently thats not the case for liberals.
