Oh yeah, I was a serious Pournelle fan for decades, read pretty much everything he wrote. The novels, the Byte articles, his blog (he hated the word), which last is still online. I called him a true modern Renaissance man, he knew a lot about a lot of things. I wish he had been on the NSC post 9/11 and we’d gone down the path to energy independence from the Middle East he favored, vs. going to war.

And I’m about 225 pages into 1632. I suspect before it’s over I’ll be $100 or more into this, lol.

Pourmelle’s nonfiction work was excellent as well. I was reading about him a few years ago and came away with the impression that he was one freaking smart dude. Almost every single person that knew him made the comment that he was the smartest person they had ever met. I’m talking actual rocket scientists who were impressed with his obvious intelligence. Baen has a few books of his commentaries.I wish TPTN had listened to him in the ‘70s and ‘80s. This would be a different world.
