I grew up in the '60s. Do you know how many welfare dollars and hours of work by black-hair specialist-barbers and hairdressers went into teasing and coating those individual strands of hair to stand on end as if the wearer of the 'fro had stuck his finger into a light socket?
"Natural" was always a difficult thing to fake.

Afros can be any worse than hair weaving. I guess it takes hours and hours, and then I can’t see that lasting for more than a couple of weeks before you have to go back and get it “tightened up”.
