I absolutely believe the father’s comment about one prosecutor saying it was “hood justice” and not wanting to press any charges against the thugs. When I lived in Cleveland, on one occasion, me and my friend (both highly skilled MMA) got into a confrontation with two rather large brothers. Two cops stood twenty feet away and clearly had o intention of getting involved. The only provocation was us making eye contact with them as they walked towards us and not move out of their way. I know the cops would have let the thugs beat us had things gone that way, but they didn’t— we beat the piss out of them and left one likely crippled for life, all over in just tens of seconds. The cops acted quickly once they saw we were putting these dogs down... and then of course they pulled US aside and started cursing us, saying “You know a white man cannot make eye contact with a black man in this city, you SOBs know what you were doing, you basically started this...” I asked him to show me the statute that said a white man can’t make eye contact with a black man... he couldn’t. I told him that I probably could find the ones that said making verbal threats followed by physical assault was in fact a crime, and that I wanted the thugs locked up. The cops refused to arrest them, and let them go, and told us to stop starting trouble. I could tell many more stories like this... basically even then, if you were white you were expected to take a beating and if you defended yourself don’t be surprised if you were the one who got locked up.
