Taking the House Majority in a non Presidential "off" year occurred 14 times - so it's not that common.

This is a big win for the GOP.

Taking BOTH the House and Senate occurred ONLY 6 times in off year elections.

So if the GOP can pull that off, it's a HUGE win, some might just call it a tidal wave.

If they pull it off yes,

however there is no escaping that even if they wind up with a small majority in both chambers, this election as a whole was disappointing.

...and it would have been EVEN better if it weren't for those meddling Millennials...

But they will learn. After all, that $31 trillion in debt is going to land hard on someone some day.

With the current condition of the country, this should be been one of those years . . .

At this point the likely GOP margin in the House is so small I think we might be better off letting the Dems have it so that it will be easier to run against them in 2024.

In some of those off years, the minority party made big gains in the Senate that made it easier for them to take over the Senate in the next election.

Also, things were different in the 1980s and 1990s because there were a lot of Democrats who voted with the Republicans, so effective power in Congress could shift without one party replacing the other as majority.
