In 1982, Michigan State University built the $24 million Wharton Center for the Performing Arts.
One of the first acts to appear at the Great Hall of the Wharton Center was Gallagher.
He came on stage with a squirt gun filled with chocolate sauce. He proceeded to squirt it at the Proscenium Arch and said "They'll never get that off!"
Gallagher then proceeded to perform all of his most famous Sledge-o-matic gags, making a mess of the front rows of brand-new seats.
My wife was front row at one of his shows: she had NO idea what was about to happen…
