In addition to drinking alcohol, buying a handgun and vaping, what are other things that require a minimum age of 21 years?

Many car rental companies require that you be at least 25 to rent a car.

In most places you also have to be at least 21 to be 22 years old.

Most law enforcement agencies require you to be 21, yet you can enlist in the military at age 18, but there are also circumstances when you can enlist at 17.

I enlisted into the navy at 17. If they allow that, then everything should be lowered

Thank you for your service. My brother enlisted at age 21 during Nam. U.S. Army. Did his basic at Fort Dix, then sent to Alaska. When they reactivated the 25th Infantry Division, he became a part of it, and was sent to Hawaii for jungle training. Was at Cu Chi ‘66-’67. He did his last year of service at Fort Carson, Colorado.

In 1966 you could enlist at 17 with parents permission. O was a big enough pain in the ads to the folks that they had all the paperwork done and ready while I was still 16 and on the night of my 17th birthday found me on a bus heading for Army basic at Ft Bliss.

I think the “adult” designation in the US should require a qualification loosely coupled to age.

Join the military at 17: you’re an adult
Age 18, no criminal record, GPA 3.0: you’re an adult
College degree: you’re an adult
Sole supporter of a household: you’re an adult
Deadbeat at age 26: ok, you’re finally an adult

And *if* you are an adult, you get *all* the rights and privileges.

Thanks to your brother for his service!

My first choice was DFC in a B-52.

Fortunately they asked if I'd like to go to Nuke Weapons school.

Spent my time at VAFB, CA working Operational Test Flights for Mk-12 Re-Entry Systems.

As should the age for child support. Voting age should match the year that “child” support ends.

In NYS matriarchy, errr, I mean “child” support payments automatically goes to age 21. Therefore, we have 18-21 yr olds VOTING but still mommykins (in 99% of the cases) receives “child” support from whomever she named as the father on the birth certificate..

Out of mommykin’s house and working full time? Emancipated. Mom gets no matriarchy support payments from dad. In NYS that is not necessarily an emancipating event.

Thank you for your service!! I also had two uncles who served overseas in the U.S. Army during WWII. One of those uncles had been born in Canada, and was my mother's only brother. She was born in Canada too. They came to the U.S. with their mother when they were both young kids. My uncle was born in 1916. My mother in 1920. When my uncle enlisted in Rochester, New York, because his original date of entry into the U.S. wasn't known, the U.S. Army took him to Niagara Falls, and had him walk back over the Rainbow Bridge to establish a new entry date. While he was on his way out west to head overseas, they naturalized him during his stay at Fort Sam Houston. The story about him being made to walk over Rainbow Bridge was just that, a family story that I thought I'd never be able to prove, but it turned out that the actual paperwork was accessible through Ancestry. com. He was supposed to have served in the China, Burma Theater. I've never been able to find his full military records as they were reported destroyed in the bit fire at the St. Louis records center in 1973.

My other uncle, like his two brothers (one being my father), were born in Holland, and came to the U.S. with their parents in 1912. My Dad was 8 at the time. They were naturalized when my grandfather was. My uncle was with a Petroleum Unit that landed at Normandy a few days after D-Day. Never knew him as he died of blood poisoning before I was born in 1947.

I live down the street from what used to be Griffiss Air Force Base. NORAD is still here. There's an old B-52G on the grounds that's a monument to the memory of its part in U.S. history.

B-52 ‘Mohawk Valley’ is a reminder of Griffiss’ historic past

Here's some pictures of what it looks like now:

Re: Car Rental- IIRC Sebastian Vettle, now multi-F1 World Championship Driver tried to rent a car in Monaco on Race Weekend and being denied to do so because He was too young 18+ and F1 Driving Championship didn’t get to help him anyway.

So He just bought a new car, drove it till he was done with it and sold it back to the Dealership when done with it...

You do not have to be 21 to join the military, vote, buy drugs, travel across state lines or out of the country.
