The sky in Chular was buzzing this weekend and alive with the sound of giant-scale model airplanes.
Hundreds came out to see pilots show off with loop-de-loops and upside-down flying for the Salinas Area Modelers Fly-In.
"People come from all over the state basically, a couple people from Nevada have come over, a lot of people from the Bay Area that were here yesterday for the event," said organizer James Collins.
To qualify as giant scale planes have to have an 80-inch wingspan. The crafts were flying between 50 and 100 miles per hour on Sunday with a speed limit of 20 miles per hour. The Federal Aviation Administration also limits altitude to 400 feet.
"It's been about 15 or 16 years since we held this event and we had 31 pilots come and join us and it is great to just have the comradery of everybody getting together," said Collins.
