In preparation for upcoming Tuesday’s midterm election, the National Guard will be activating cybersecurity teams in 14 states to assist in keeping election authorities’ networks secure from cyber attacks and from any malicious activities, Politico reported.
“The move is part of a wider effort to ensure the midterms are secure from cybersecurity threats, which have loomed large in recent years since Russian interference operations in 2016,” the outlet added.
During a press conference on Friday, Washington Air National Guard Brig. Gen. Gent Welsh said, “One of the things making a lot of this possible are states that’ve just decided to do it.”
“Not everyone’s doing it, and those that are have invested in cyber talent and cyber missions for years. If you don’t have a cyber unit in your state you’re not in a good position to help them protect elections,” he added.
The 14 states with National Guard teams on duty on election day are North Carolina, Arizona, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, New Mexico, New York, Washington, and West Virginia.

May not contain remote access software or any capability to remotely-access the system;
So if they don’t have the capability for remote access, why do they need the NG there to prevent cyber intrusion???

DHS cybersecurity group along with dominion techies went to Brazil to help fortify their election too...
... and the commie criminal “ won”.
See my tagline.
Lol. Neither. I should have added the / s.
Didn’t mean to start a kerfuffle. It’s just that nowadays every historical event offends someone.
Please resume normal Sunday.
Ah—phew!
*Any* voting machines are abused.

Whaddaya know!
(Ugh.)
Oops. Replied to the wrong thread.
In my professional role I consult to the Space Force. So from my perspective giving the Reserve a chance to execute their cyber mission is not inherently evil. This may be, but I kinda doubt it.
Forensic cyber security generally leaves a quote visible audit trail.
But I understand your concerns. I just don’t share them here.

Not as far as all of us could throw them.
Believe me, it is.
Many ways around playing it square. All through cyber. And DHS cyber is among the worst.
Pelosi should use those NG units to babysit her husband while she’s off gavel-bashing. Stupid old lady. Leaving her husband “Home Alone.” Nanzi! You filthy animal!
The way I understand it, the overarching CIC is the President. However, when it comes to the National Guard, the actual commander in chief is the governor of that state.
Of that list of states, only 2 are raising red flags for me. I don’t know who the governor of Arizona is, but I damn sure know who the governor of the state of Washington is.
The governorship of Arizona is on the line for this election... an utter dingbat versus a strong Conservative. And as far as Washington is concerned, it’s a 30-year incumbent democrat against a patriotic woman who is intelligent and a Conservative.
Do you think cheating could be involved in either one?
I should have mentioned... For Washington state, it’s the US senate seat that is up for grabs. Tiffany Smiley, versus Patty Murray.
The military should not be controlling anything to do with elections. They do that in communist countries!

The U.S. Constitution states that state legislatures will determine the method by which they conduct elections, and do so prior to the election.
If the state legislature made provisions for using the National Guard to secure the election, then this may be legitimate. If not, it would be unconstitutional.
I hope GOP lawyers will wake up and challenge this. I think they should begin legal proceedings prior to election day. Early voting has already commenced. Has the National Guard had any role?
biden called out the military out of fear of Republicans winning in the election.
are they checking the machines for wireless access???
Counter proposal:
The election day and the day after, access to the internet is cut at the US border.
The word to use is UNLAWFUL from a state court ruling on actions taken during the election. That particular word, when used in a quo warranto action in Fed court, and evidenced by a state court, sets the legal threshold for any officeholder, including US Senators and Congresspersons. to overcome. And there is no presumption of 'right' to occupy a seat which could not be occupied due to an UNLAWFUL election.
IANAL (I am not a lawyer), but it seems a no-brainer to me.
