I was thinking more along the lines of expressions like "find me a honey" and "blow this town". Also, the blue collar "need a paycheck before I can go on a date" motif works better with Sam Cooke, who sounds the part.
The Beatles had the same problem with some of their Chuck Berry covers.

The Beatles had the same problem with some of their Chuck Berry covers. I know, right? Mick went to London School of Economics. When the Stones first started out and were doing college tours in the mid-60s, Mick was wearing a corduroy sports coat, khakis, a chambray shirt, a knitted necktie and Hush Puppies shoes. I saw them at UPenn in 1966.
