A couple weeks ago I heard a rumor about this. Just now Richard Baris posted this on Twitter (along with a number of additional insights):
“I’ve received at least a half dozen calls from GOP donors who have told me the contents of their conversations AND sitting members of Congress have confirmed it.
@GOPLeader Kevin McCarthy and Paul Ryan have hatched a plan to defeat MAGA in 2024 and Ron DeSantis is the stool.”
Of course I didn't watch the entire speech - very few people except Trump's most ardent supporters will. But that's the entire reason why you don't say stupid things like that. Because that's the kind of clip that is going to get the widest circulation, and it's all most voters will hear or see from that rally. And it isn't made up, or distorted. It's his own exact words.
That's why both DeSantis and Lake are bulletproof, and Trump isn't. They don't ever make those kind of unforced errors. So try as they might, the media can't hurt them. But Trump keeps handing his enemies ammo so they can attack him with his own words.
That's why he lost in 2020.

DeSantis can tell the media to quit pinning him against Trump, but he hasn’t. That makes it a competition. Regans rule does not apply to competitors in a primary.

Ron DeSantis fans on the right really give vibes of Ted Cruz supporters circa 2014. If DeSantis runs against Donald Trump in 2024, he might fall from grace the same way too.

Exactly. FreeRepublic has deteriorated a great deal. Back in the day posters would back up their posts with detailed data backing up their posts.
Now we have kneejerk posters. Emotional basketcases reacting to Headlines. No research. No validating the veracity of a post they kneejerk react to.

No way Trump would support anyone who beat him in a primary. If he did, it would be half-assed, and a wink-wink, nudge-nudge not to vote for them.
