A beef over boorish behavior in a Midtown steakhouse ended with a Massachusetts tourist stabbed twice by a diner seated at a nearby table, police said Saturday.
A Manhattan woman was arrested hours after the red-meat ruckus where police said the suspect became outraged Friday night after the 24-year-old victim’s wife made snide remarks about the service and the waitstaff inside Ruth’s Chris Steak House, cops said.
Customer Joan Thompson, 41, intervened in the argument between the wife and a worker before grabbing a steak knife and stabbing the man in the lower back and armpit shortly after 10 p.m. at the restaurant on W. 51st St., police said.
Thompson was charged with felony assault and menacing, police said.
“I’ve never been to Ruth’s,” said Bob Ostrow, who was staying at an adjoining hotel. “But if you’re going to start a ruckus you don’t want to do it at a steakhouse. There’s too many sharp knives!”
Cops spent Friday night searching for surveillance video to help identify the suspect before she was taken into custody. Thompson was sitting near the out-of-town couple when the fracas started, with the situation escalating quickly as the suspect took the side of the employees.
The victim, of Milford, Mass., was rushed to Weill Cornell Medical Center by ambulance.
“When they brought him out he was holding his upper chest,” said a security guard at the neighboring Michelangelo Hotel. “He was stabbed and bleeding, but still talking when they put him into the ambulance.
Thompson and her dinner companion fled the restaurant and headed on foot toward the East Side as witnesses dialed 911. She was arrested a little more than four hours after the stabbing.

Sometimes, you should mind your own damn business.
They have to check each other’s grammar and spelling.
I suppose now we need to add Ruths Chris steakhouses to McDonalds, IHOP, Waffle House, Chuckie Cheese and other places you can’t stop to get a bite to eat without getting caught up in some violent tussle.
My guess is Ruth's Chris is going to be getting reservation requests to be seated in the non-stabbing section.
Incidentally, the Ruth's Chris restaurant on W. 51st St mentioned in the story is the one frequented by Sean Hannity.
Thank you for expressing your opinion and please put the knife down.
Cashless bail allowed her to return to Ruth’s in time for the late serving.
Could never afford Ruth’s during the good times when I was working and could never afford to dine there now even if I won the lottery.......
Never been in a Waffle House
Drive past one every now and then
Why stab the husband?
It’s a wonder some beleaguered server hasn’t assaulted my BIL’s obnoxious complaining wife. I wouldn’t go out with them because I’d be afraid a cook or server would spit in our food just for being at her table. Especially in the restaurants they go to repeatedly.
Lol. Went to a really nice place called 3Forks in Dallas for a Christmas work party. It was good, but I could have done better. They would absolutely stroke you.
I just enjoy cooking my own food.
My bad...Inside a gut barrel! LOL
No way better to correct rude behavior than assault with a steak knife. That’ll teach him to control his wife.
Heh
Cooking is lots of fun
Cleaning, OTOH......
The fifth W is How. Why is not within the purview of journalism, at least in objective reporting. When someone asks why any guess is as good as any other guess so a reporter can make a guess into a fact all an their own. For instance if you ask why was the guy in Paul Pelosi’s house the reporter stops being objective. Who, Paul Pelosi and another man, where, Pelosi’s house, what, the police were called and pelosi was hit with a hammer, when, 2:30 am, how, by the man that was in his house, why, because Republicans are whipping up violent rhetoric and this is an extension of the January 6 insurrection. That is why why should not belong to journalists.
That’s why you clean while you cook girl!
I ate at a couple when they first opened and I liked 'em because I'm a big breakfast type of person. But ever since I went on a complaint at one that there was grease coming out of their rainspouts and pooling in the parking lot, it soured me on them. Me and another inspector went up on the roof and it was entirely soaked in grease. A sure deathtrap for a firefighter in a fire waiting to happen. I've seen similar conditions at other Waffle Houses in town.
LOL. Some years ago our family went to Paris. A full breakfast was $90 a person at the hotel. I walked down the block to a McDonald's and got breakfast for everyone for about $40 total.
OK I’ll have to rent a clean-while-I-cook girl!
But I’m poor.....a a good cook
Heh
Yikes 😳
