Who would have thought back then they would still be singing “Hope I Die Before I Get Old”, when they are like 80 years old?
11th Greatest Of All Time ?
Only by the brain dead.
I remember in the mid 60’s, the band I was in were playing in a cavalcade show with 10-15 musical acts of that period. My friend said “The WHO is playing that gig”. I asked “Who is the WHO?” and my friend said “They are an English group, and at the end of their set, they destroy all of their equipment on stage.” Not knowing, I said “Why would they destroy their instruments?” Guess you’d have to have been there.
Little story: In 1976 my band, “Rampage” was offered a slot at the Troubadour, where Elton John made his American debut. We got one full hour.
No sooner did we start playing our original stuff than Pete Townsend and John Entwhistle came in and sat right to the front/right of the stage. They stayed our entire set. When we finished, Townsend came up (quite drunk) and slapped me on the back, saying “Good show, wot?”
