Andrea Martínez didn’t quite realize what she was getting herself into when she tried out to kick extra points for a Mexican college football team.
She thought maybe it was a position on a women’s team, or at least there would be other women on the roster. But when she won the spot, Martínez was told she would become the first woman to play college football among men in the country’s top amateur division.
“At first one did not dimension it well because I did not even fully understand that I was going to be the first woman,” Martínez admitted in an interview with The Associated Press. “I thought there were more girls or that there was even going to be a women’s team.”

A quote by Chris comes to mind. “Just because you can drive with your feet does’t mean it is a damn good idea.”
Locally, an 8th grade girl is on the football team. She is regarded as brave and is supposedly proving that girls can do anything they want to. I regard her parents as stupid for putting her in harm’s way.
That would be Chris Rock.
Even with the drug cartels and the poverty, Mexico is a more decent place in some ways than our country is. I’ll bet they wouldn’t let her shower with the men even if she wanted to.
Keep girls off boys teams and boys off girls teams.
End of story.
Well when she gets seriously injured they can sue the school and live on easy street from all the taxpayers who thought it was so great.
The sooner this stupid woke crap ends the better. No girls on boys teams and no boys on girls teams.
She’s close to being a billionaire these days so there is that.
I agree w/ this but w/ exceptions. One would be golf. Some rural areas could never, ever build a girls golf team. Even if they did, they'd have no one to play against.
But a girl might come along w/ real golf talent needing competition. I have no problem w/ her playing w/ and against boys (from the same tees).
If you’ve ever taken karate you’ll learn one thing women can really do well. Kick.
They tend (not always) to be more flexible than men and the power comes from how you kick (using hip momentum) even more so than sheer strength (although that helps).
My first karate instructor took lessons with Lisa Marie Presley. He said she was outstanding.
I met her once 30 or so years ago at PGA National. Coming from Central PA, I had never seen beauty like that (still don't think I have). And of course, she was charming, gracious, and nice as could be.
ZERO exceptions.
None. If they want to do coed stuff, its not on official organized school or professional teams, its on their own time or in a private league where everyone there agrees to be there and agree to take the risks.
Well, there is co-ed golf in HS (it’s rare) - where boys play boys and girls play girls on the same team (usually 3 or 4 point match play), but it’s rare.
We’ll have to agree to disagree on this one. It’s about access to competition for me. You can’t get good at anything without competing.
It appears to be American-style football to me.
“… Martinez stopped playing soccer to become the first woman to play college football amongst men in Mexico…”
No. First of all, there is no position in soccer called, "Kicker."
Second, look at the picture, she is clearly wearing an American football uniform.
Your specific argument is not valid. You dont need to play against anyone else to improve at golf. Its not like tennis and its not a group sport. Its more like pole vaulting or diving.
