As was noted elsewhere, this was a bit more than simple road rage. Nevertheless your point is still valid, very valid. Once motorcycle guy got the car’s description and plate number, it would have been wiser to back off and let the police handle it from there.

Sure, motorcycle guy had the right to continue following the car all the way to the driver’s house. But sometimes it’s just not worth rolling the dice.

He was within his rights, but the better thing would have been to not follow her and report it to the police. No one really “wins” in a situation like this.

The biker and witnesses followed her to the house and we’re waiting for the police to arrive when she exited the house firearm in hand.

Problem is these days stolen and outright fake license plates are the rage. Along with possible inaccurate, long expired registration info there is NO guarantee the plate number would have led to a suspect. So if something serious like injury, theft or property damage occurs there's basically no other course of action but to follow them until law enforcement is present. Otherwise if you lose sight of them they're GONE. Just keep a distance, if they approach, back off accordingly, don't engage, wait for LE to close in and handle it. That's the unfortunate ROE of the new normal with an increasingly lawless populace.
