Never had any elevators at any base I was ever at.
Stairs are good exercise.
I was an ALO at Ft Hood decades ago. Our building had no elevator. Like you, I can’t remember many that did. Hospitals, maybe. And I was Air Force, where we paid lip service to physical fitness! I do remember mandatory running at Ft Hood...wonder if they still do that!
Probably the handicap access laws have triggered elevators in all installations now.
Not saying its a good law, but with our woke military, no surprise.
“Never had any elevators at any base I was ever at.”
Paternoster/continuous lift systems were in use in the former IG Farben building in Frankfurt, Germany which Eisenhower had preserved from bombing in WW2 to become SACEUR HQ in the post-war period. The building later became HQ, V Corps during the Cold War when I had occasion to go to the building twice in the early 80s. Also featured in the movies “Berlin Express” and “Night People”.
The defense secretary is fat!
He must use an elevator all the time.
