Only JAX references allowed: Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, and Molly Hatchet.

I guess Allman Brothers Band as well...

The pier is only about 30 feet. Not that it matters. He probably hit one of the piles on the way down or got thrashed against them by the waves.

I was taught to have my hands in fists tight to the sides, but it is a minor difference.

Sure. And if you don’t know what you are doing it can be as dangerous as a 40 foot drop onto concrete.

>>Hell of a way to do a breakup

Read/heard elsewhere that it was his sister - so I will give him a small break.

Yep, immediately after you submerge extend your arms and legs (bent at knee) to speed brake your decent so you don't slam into the bottom, not knowing how deep it is or if there's a big boulder below or some other obstruction.

Enter like a spear then flare the limbs to brake.

Gotta wonder if the girl knew how risky it was to the unprepared. Heck of a way to cull out her suitors if so.

“Feet first, point your toes, cover your nuts with your hands, and keep your chin tucked.”

I did that at 50’ and it stripped my pants off and I had to swim to the bottom, get them and make a flotation device. I passed. Oh, you forgot to hold your nose.

The end of that pier (HB Main Beach) water depth is about 30ft depending on the tide

Everyone knows salamanders are jealous of newts.

"My name is Rebecca, but my friends call me Salamander" just doesn't work as well, does it?...

In my youth I often swam that far out next to the pier, which was just beyond the outer surfline. (The “outer waves” are no longer there, since a storm in the late 80s flattened out the sand bar in the area.)

Given the gradual sandy slope, I would estimate the water depth to be around 20 feet, depending on the tide.

He was jumping in to rescue his sister.

Very unfortunate.
