They did. I remember one trip on the California Zephyr where a young lady was tossed off somewhere in Nevada for smoking pot on the train. She was balling her eyes out as we pulled away from the station.

Considering that this industry publication is mocking a Satirical News Site for the story, most of the comments here will be hilariously off target.
The unfortunate thing is that the BS Satirical news site often gets picked up as ‘real’ news by serious outlets. This effect - BS becoming “real” - is the actual focus of the article. Weed is still a Schedule 1 at the Federal level...
I was on the Zephyr 18 months ago and saw a guy kicked off for a mask infraction.

I thought it silly, but my first thought was the SHOES, or the CANDY.

Is there anything but slow moving Amtrak trains? I took the LA to Seattle route once. HORRIBLE. Stopped on the spurs for hours at a time waiting for freight trains. The engine ran out of diesel just across the Oregon border. The cars ran out of water. It smelled like a dog kennel once the toilets started filling up. OH BUT if the government just gets a little more money they will run rail perfectly.
Once it involves a weed you IMMEDIATELY get disabled by.
Tobacco takes forever, if it kills you.
Alcohol and all the drugs the commies love? In an hour you can be stuck on stupid and dead just from acting dumb (never mind medical problems that do emerge).
They don’t mind that. In fact, they probably hope everyone will be dopey so they accidentally die. Then fewer infidels they have to actively kill.
And a plant inundated with pesticides.
The ONLY way to travel on an Amtrak trip of more than four hours is in a sleeper. Most of those coach problems never affect you or your room plus the food isn’t too bad. Cross continental trains, Zephyr, Empire Builder, Sunset Limited can make up time tearing across the desert or plain. The worst, absolute worst, is the Cardinal from Chicago to DC. I renamed that one the Tardinal.
