I think of Burtons Batman whenever I see the NYC skyline. It’s changed violently in my lifetime. It looks like something from that movie.
Burton strikes me as a very good filmmaker but an outfit like Disney can’t really leave him alone to do what he does. He’s liable at any moment to have an idea not authorized by Disney. Very dangerous thing.
Agreed, this doesn’t read like someone criticizing Disney’s political slant, moreso they are interested in big budget things vs the kind of things he wants to make...
Indeed. I had no idea he did a remake of 'Dumbo'. Can't quite picture that.
There was a She-Hulk ?? Sounds positively dreadful woke.
I guarantee you, if a film director wanted to redo Dumbo, somebody is going to start complaining that the Baby Elephant is being ‘Big-Ear-Shamed’ and ‘Other’ed’. Some folks think light humor has to be against some law someplace.
Johnny Depp, after he won his case against the bedpooper, also said he would never work with Disney again, who had dumped him from his signature role as Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean series because of Amber Heard’s accusations.
Burton doesn’t get enough credit for Batman because he really set the stage for superhero movies that weren’t Superman.
