An Australian woman has sparked a wave of internet backlash after posting a photo of herself on an American Airlines flight complaining about having to sit beside two "obese people."
Sydney Watson, an Australia-American conservative political commentator, took to Twitter to share her experience while on a three-hour American airline flight.
Sydney Watson complained to American Airlines about being 'wedged between two obese people.' "I am currently — literally — WEDGED between two OBESE people on my flight," Watson tweeted.
"This is absolutely NOT acceptable or okay. If fat people want to be fat, fine. But it is something else entirely when I'm stuck between you, with your arm rolls on my body, for 3 hours."
Watson's complaint was met with immediate backlash from other social media users, who accused her of being extremely fatphobic and downright mean.
However, Watson doubled down on her post, saying that she doesn't care 'if this is mean.'
"I can't even put the arm rests down on either side because there's no f-king room. I'm sick of acting like fatness to this extent is normal. Let me assure you, it is not," she wrote.
The official Twitter account for American Airlines quickly responded to Watson's viral post, rebuffing her claims.
"Our passengers come in all different sizes and shapes. We're sorry you were uncomfortable on your flight," the airline wrote.
Though, a week later, Watson, who demanded "reparations" for being forced to sit in the middle seat, received an email from American Airlines offering her compensation.
In the email shared by Watson, the airline apologized for the discomfort and offered her a $150 coupon.
"We do our best to avoid uncomfortable situations regarding seats. I can understand your disappointment with the situation not being remedied to your satisfaction. It seems that our Flight Attendants were not able to make changes to the seating arrangement," the email stated.
In response to American Airlines offering her the coupon, Watson continued her tirade against the airline company, tweeting that she'd rather give the coupon "to someone who needs PT or a gym membership."
Airlines should charge by the pound, maybe?
I once got sandwiched between two 400 lb sumo wrestlers on an American fight
Literally
Didn’t get any compensation for my suffering
I haven’t flown since 2007, but I’m under the impression that you can choose your seat in the main cabin when you book your flight. My son did it all the times he flew oveseas, and when he and I flew overseas in 2006, I told him I would prefer to sit in the aisle seat because I would likely have to use the ladies room more frequently than most people. Not to mention it was the first time I’d flown in over 20 years, and it was my first time flying overseas. Do most airlines let you do that?
I am claustrophobic and I had to sit in a BAC111 in the middle seat while a 400 pound person took up 2/3rds of MY SEAT! No open seats on the aircraft. I was PO’ed and will never get into that position ever again.
The RBF makes her hotter.
It kind of does. She needs a vigorous throttling...
Sydney is hot hot hot. I have been following her on youtube for years. I am surprised I never see her linked on FR as she is universally despised by leftists
Fat people should have to buy two tickets.
You gained a memory and a story. :)
A friend of mine who at the time was working for the government, had been visiting her mother in Delaware, and happened to be on the same flight back to D.C., as Joe Biden when he was a Senator. There was a problem with the heating system on the plane, and the attendants went around handing out blankets. She told me that some young blonde, who identified as being a teacher, sat on Biden's lap the whole flight. They were pretty boisterous, and of course they were covered with a blanket the whole flight, so I'm sure a lot of hanky-panky went on underneath it. I'm not sure what year this flight took place, but I don't think it was Dr. Jill sitting on Joe's lap as they had married in 1977. My friend, like me, would have only been 30 at that time, and she may not have even been working for the government in 1977. So, it's possible it was some other dolly sitting on his lap during that flight.
Some airlines do charge by the pound. The problem is they don’t carry passengers. (Ex: FedEx)
Yes, she is!
I think it sucks when you are stuck between two hippos on a fault. They sent her $150 credit which is good.
The public which has grown fatter and fatter over the years. If airlines provided adequate seat space for all these fat people our airline tickets would be significantly increased. So there’s that.
Some may be OK with paying more I suppose. But I don’t see airlines building bigger planes.
In meantime the airlines should deal with this head on instead of ignoring the elephants in the plane. There should be some compensation system penalizing extremely obese passengers and crediting those who sit next to them.
Give me fat fat guy over children screaming like teradactyls and kicking seats any day.

LOL! I’m not sure what teradactyls sounded like, but that would be appropriate.
How about two gay guys where one was periodically massaging the other’s crank and smirking about it every time I had the misfortune to glance at my seatmates.
And as far as fatasses go I once had a plus plus size flop down next to me. First thing he asked was if he could raise the armrest. I told him no it was the only thing that was keeping even more of him from flowing into my seat. He really got pissed but the arm rest stayed down.
That woman has an exponentially increased chance of severe injury if that plane made a hard landing or crashed with those two overweight people squishing her.
I was gonna say “probably high maintenance”
But I’m sorry for her trouble
Reminds me of the (liberal) Foo Fighters video for “Learn to Fly”.
