The decline has been increasing in speed, even during the Trump years. There are a few solutions, but we’re still too comfortable to try them.

It’s in the Bible, towards the back, starts with an “R”

Funny you mention Clinton.

I got a government job in 96. I was born in 76. I had a great paycheck.

I saw his face on the wall everyday and that whole office was full of people who despised him.

They taught me the way that government is actually run. It was here that they pointed me to freerepublic.com.

What you found disdain in, I would like to point out is what created me. When you look around at the guff and misery of this world just know that without that people like me wouldn’t exist.

People aren’t going to “wake up” if everything is honkydory. Like the saying goes, “no one turns to Jesus on prom night”

The only thing I didn’t like about the 80s was the extreme rise in divorce. Many, many of the families on my street got divorced around the same time, including my parents. It destroyed our family forever and has severely impacted my own children. It has affected generations. There’s a reason God hates divorce.

In “Reflections on the Revoution in France”, Edmund Burke resurrects the Roman word and legal concept of “prescription” to explain what went wrong. In this context “prescription” means the process by which cultural norms and practices are developed over long periods of time, “before they were written”, i.e. codified in Law. Burke recognized that slow, gradual evolution of social norms releases pent up frustrations; thus avoiding explosive revolutions.
In Revolutionary France, society went from aons of being stifled, to a free for all of radical change. Surprise! Too much too fast destroys the foundations of society, nrmal human relations, and the common morality that keeps people from becoming beasts.

The contemporary “Left” has forced change down the public throat that relatively few people want or even understand. Society is visibly breaking down; corruption is rampant; and , lunatics are running the asylum. Those who sense we are losing our country feel so BECAUSE WE ARE. The Leftists are not interested in tolerance. Their program is that YOU have to kowtow to their insane agenda, even though mature adults know it will lead to disaster. Most of us have things to lose, and are not willing to risk our lives and liberty in the death struggle required to fight back. So we tell ourselves that we should give one more election a chance, etc. Pressure is building and Thermadore awaits.

I have 3 daughters I am estranged from aged 28 to 41. The middle one who lives in Seattle I haven’t spoken to in over a decade.

My wife found a support group at a local church, and I found out we got off easy. Many kids are suing for support and calling the police and claiming sexual abuse.

My kids were in Catholic schools and later homeschooled so this obviously was a surprise to me.

Shockingly they are equally hard on my wife, whom I thought always bent over backward for them.

Maybe I am lucky as I age with declining health.

I am free of angst.

My wife's prudence and austerity has made retirement free from serious economic concern.

I am a ravenous consumer of political and economic news, but am somewhat able to convert outrage into introspective critical thinking of how things tie into the historical human condition.

I am blessed with two young grandsons whose exploits allow me to relive the imagined glory of my lost youth.

I have also stopped Quixotic tilting at windmills. My legacy will be teaching those grandsons how to live life. My other accomplishments are almost nil.

Finally I am at peace with mortality. I have accepted Jesus as my savior. I do not wish to die but I am curious about what lies beyond.

Despite the positive advances in technology, science, medical, etc., I envy those from 200 years ago living on the prarie, breaking bread together as a family, and a community that was there for a neighbor. Not for the “collective” but because of a Godly obedience to one another.

As for those “advances in technology” we all know how detrimental those have become.

I’ll take a horse and buggy over an electric vehicle any day! As for the “emissions”, it’s better than what they are shoveling out of Washington DC these days!

Have things gotten worse or is it we know what everyone is thinking or doing now with social media?

Two clues....you said you don’t care who marries who as long as there is no duress and all parties agree...that is not a given thing...that is why there are divorce lawyers, claims of sexual abuse, physical attacks, child abductions, even murder. Cause people DON’T just agree and get along when married or getting divorced. So that is one reason for breakdown in society.
Women having children with two different surnames could be due to death of the husband. Many times it is due to divorce of a stll fertile women who remarries and bears children to the new husband. That too causes social issues and splits in families with resultant stress and strife.
Plus, many believe that as long as someone does WHAT THEY WANT TO, all will be well. That is a false notion.
Put all that together and it helps spell dysfunctional society. I have not included alcohol, drug use, or mental illness.
IMHO.
Freegards.

“Mayne I’m making mountain out of mole hills and I just wanted to vent on something here on a simple observation I have made on society today versus what it was say from the 1980’s and before.“

I was also going to make an observation, but my topic concerns people who don’t know what the passing lane of a interstate is used for.

You lost me when you wrote you do not care who marries whom. Does that mean you support gay marriage?
