The optimum car if one is that worried about the environment is a hybrid. It has its own problems but other than in town errand running, an EV is not practical.

I picked up a hybrid at the end of February, great solution. If I drive EV-style, I get over 60 MPG, worst I've seen is still around 52 MPG. I have mix of hills with 6% grades, city, and highway. And I can stop at any gas station to refuel.

2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE.

Pros: Cheap to drive

Cons: Small, noisy on roads

I picked up the extra warranties, supposedly 125,000 bumper-to-bumper, including battery. Time will tell if that is fully honored.
