Update for Russian Ops vs. Ukraine for October 17, 2022
- Russian forces are closing in on Bakhmut city - with even the Western media noting the inevitability of Russia’s victory there;
- Ukrainian offensives are grinding to a halt - whatever additional gains they make will be temporary and inevitably reversed as Russia prepares what appears to be a major offensive of its own;
- Western media is depending heavily on propaganda to paper over severe weapon and ammunition shortages in Ukraine and the implications it has on Kiev’s fighting capacity;
- The US is lashing out with an increasingly desperate tone as nations around the globe refuse to subordinate themselves and their nation’s interests to US foreign policy objectives - India being among them;
"Knock 'em dead, Birdie!"
Things have grown so desperate in Kyiv in the way of effective air defenses, that the Ukrainians are literally having to resort to shooting at drones with rifles.

Is that Mad Men?
If so, was it good?
Good the first few seasons then started to get Woke as they got into the late 60s.
Thanks
Putin’s last options are to use nukes or surrender his conquest. If he surrenders, he loses, if he uses nukes, he and the entire world loses.
Reminds me of the old story about the dog who keeps chasing the sports car.....
WHEN he finally catches it-—he doesn’t know what to do......
In many cases, that seems to work.
The Iranian things are fairly large and not hard to spot.
And they are slow, as slow as a WWI aircraft.
A light machinegun in an old WWI-WWII type role should do well, as point defense.
The problem is warning time.

So now your reports claim “Putin doesn’t know what to do.” Who, exactly, is the source for this made up garbage?
Putin has a reptilian look

Long psychological profile for Putin by a Spanish forensic psychologist. Bear with the translation. Or translate again.

Haha, western (your) propaganda crap is not even remotely believable anymore. Good grief, we could lose NY to an occupying force and the Western media would report all is well. Oh wait, losing NY…it might in fact be OK in this case! Hahahah
Dang, I wish I was a bit younger. A buddy of mine who’s great with audio, computer programming & DSP stuff (also used to work for TI’s Defense Division doing work with terrain and target recognition) and I (good with audio, acoustics & general system organization) could help work up a prototype for a PC based expandable acoustic detection / location network for the outskirts of Ukie cities...
Those drones are REALLY loud.
Light attack / trainer type aircraft should be really good at zapping those drones, too.
Look up Iron Beam. The new Israeli laser to shoot down Iranian drones. The laser costs millions. But each laser blast costs $2.
Iron Beam - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Beam
Iron Beam uses a fiber laser to destroy an airborne target within 4–5 seconds of firing at a range of 7 km. Whether acting as a stand-alone system or with external cueing as part of an air-defense system, a threat is detected by a surveillance system and tracked by vehicle platforms in order to engage. Unconfirmed word on the street, so to speak, is that the Ukrainian air defenses are having a hard time tracking and then locking onto the drones for varying reasons such as low infrared/heat signature(s), etc.
What is probably needed are massed anti-aircraft guns utilizing fragmentation munitions.
Admittedly, all ongoing speculation.
Still reading from varying sources (some from sources in Kyiv and in the Donbass region) on the matter of drones, how they are changing the landscape of warfare, and how they can be countered with effective air defenses.
