Any list like this is dependent on subjective opinion of the writer(s).
The worth of any bar, pub or tavern is totally dependent on the clientele.
Every bar is different and each bar is a different experience.
There are rowdy bars, high class bars, low class bars, sports bars, piano bars, bars with peanut shells on the floor, biker bars and endless more that I have never been to.
The only thing they have in common is that people return to the ones that they feel comfortable in and enjoy the company of the regulars.

The “Billy Goat” outside Durango, Colo. is a local dive that used to have that reputation. I’ve never been in the place but that’s what I hear.
