Your comment made me recall when my daughter(now 38) pointed out that she had backed the John Deere lawn tractor into the shed. As opposed to pulling it in forward.
I told her I was very proud of her. She was 12 at the time and quite proud of herself.
Around the same time she wanted to be able to run her grand fathers dingy(for his sailboat)around the harbor. I took her out and let her run it. The I pulled the kill switch on the outboard motor. I told her IF she could restart the motor by herself, then she could take the dingy out by herself. She was very small for her age. She did not have the strength to pull the cord well enough. It took her several more trips with me, but by the end of the summer she could start the engine all by herself.
yep, some kids have initiative and drive.
