A dog and a sea lion went viral for their game of catch after it was recorded at a beach in Santa Cruz over the weekend.
Dave Nelson was playing fetch with his dog Moe at the beach when he noticed a sea lion was following them up and down the beach as they played.
"It came all the way up to the beach and Moe went out and sniffed, and the Sea Lion gave a couple loving barks," Nelson told KSBW 8.
Nelson said that is when he started to record the fun.
The dog and the sea lion played fetch together for a bit before Nelson and Moe went home for the day.
That’s pretty cool. I wonder if the sea lion would’ve brought the ball (or the dog) back had he caught it.
I have never seen a sea lion get that close before.
They have some wicked teeth and the water is their home.
God’s creatures sure are fascinating!
While salmon fishing on Monterey Bay, I’ve seen orcas
playing frisby with a seal. Pink water!
VERY cute!
When I lived in Alaska I would play fetch with my black Lab off the beach in Homer. Then I saw a sea lion stalking him. That was the end of that play session. A friend later lost his Lab and did not know what happened until the remains washed up the next day with the belly ripped out. He had seen a lion in the water the day they were playing.
Thats Mitchells Cove. I had a seal pups just like that goof with me while surfing at Steamer Lane nearby, biting my foot, playing with my leash. Cute little guys.
Very cool.
Wild creatures remain wild. They aren’t cute or cuddly or sweet. They are looking for a meal and a mate. That is what drives them just about every moment of the day.
We played with the young ones in the surf in the Galapagos. But the big beach masters would charge you to defend their turf. Big teeth and 4 5 hundred pounds.
True. Not many city folk realize that. One of the scariest animal encounters I ever had was finding myself in the middle of a harem of female sea lions off the coast of Afognak Island in Alaska in a 12 ft. inflatable dinghy with an 8hp motor. When we realized what we had gotten into we got away as fast as that 8hp would run and THEN we encountered a young male sea lion who was trying to get in with the dominant bull’s ladies and he didn’t like us being there at all. We had two big game rifles but I was not about to try shooting a critter who could swim faster than our little boat would move.
Just walking on the Oregon beach we saw sea lions checking out our dog ... lucky she did not like the water much.
I just about crashed my car laughing while listening to a Ricky Gervais podcast where Karl was explaining how a Sea Lion is a cross between a dog and a fish.
