The Bennard family from Shelby County, Tennessee, suffered a devastating blow Oct. 6 when their two dogs fatally attacked the family’s 2-year-old and 5-month-old.
The dogs, two pit bulls named Cheech and Mia, turned on Hollace Dean, 5 months old, and Lilly Jane, 2, for no discernable reason.
Mom Kirstie Jane Bennard, 30, gave her all to protect her children, using herself as a shield to try to protect Lilly Jane and receiving countless lacerations in the process, according to USA Today.
Despite her sacrifice and efforts during the horrific 10-minute onslaught, the Bennards lost both their precious babies and Kirstie was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The two dogs had been with the family for eight years and had never shown any signs of aggression, according to the report.
Friends and family have been shocked by the incident, saying the dogs had never given any sign they’d be capable of such an atrocity (though many people have said being a pit bull is sign enough).
“I can promise you those children were her world, and if there was any inkling of danger, she would have never had those dogs near her kids,” Kelsey Canfield, Kirstie’s best friend, told Fox News.
“Those children were everything to them, and they just have a really long journey ahead.”
The dogs were euthanized on Thursday, according to a tweet by the Shelby County Sheriff.
“As of now it looks like there isn’t any permanent damage other than a heart that will never heal.

“Your not from the country. Any animal that tries to harass or kill farm animals can be killed on the property IAW the law.”
I have no problem with that, because we can do that here, as well.
It is within the law here to kill an animal that is actually threatening someone or his or her own animals. But we can’t kill it just because it walks across our property.
Which is what the poster GaryCrow was talking about. He actually “crowed” about (is that where he got his screen name?) summarily shooting dogs just because they stepped onto his property, even if they did not exhibit any threatening behavior. He boasts of killing them just because they are there.
Your aggressive trash dogs and owners like you are the problem, not landowners like me who are simply trying to live our lives while keeping our families and pets safe from them. If you insist upon keeping aggressive dogs like pit bulls then you and you alone are responsible for them. I don't want the damn things near me or mine, keep them in your trailer park and there will not be a problem. I can assure you that I'm not going to be visiting your meth lab anytime soon so as long as the dogs stay on YOUR PROPERTY and not on MINE they will be fine. I'm done with this discussion and people like you.

Oh, spare me your platitudes.
“If you insist upon keeping aggressive dogs like pit bulls then you and you alone are responsible for them.”
That’s right. It’s MY responsibility. So stop your moralizing.
“I don’t want the damn things near me or mine...”
And I’m sure neither the dogs nor their owners want a hot-head like YOU anywhere near THEM.
“I can assure you that I’m not going to be visiting your meth lab anytime soon so as long as the dogs stay on YOUR PROPERTY and not on MINE they will be fine.”
Well, you won’t find any meth lab near me; though you might find one closer to home. And my dog has high standards, so rest assured he will stay away from you.
“I’m done with this discussion and people like you.”
Good.
If your animal killed one of my loved ones, knowing what it is and your attitude about it.....ME.
Got it tough guy?

If my dog killed one of your loved ones without provocation I would shoot my dog myself.
Got it, tough guy?
