Recently, got into a brief exchange with an antigunner on another forum. Thought I'd share it with you.
I was answering a post about someone who had their house ransacked and robbed. My initial response post follows, then the exchange:
Laz: "I sure hope they don't try me. I seldom leave and have a terrific aim. Gosh, that would be awful if I ended up shooting a bunch of them as they broke in. That would really mess with my head."
Antigunner: "Ammosexuals always want to shoot up the neighborhood. Besides, they probably knew he was gone. Hope it works out for him, and they catch the culprits."
Laz: "Couple of points:
First: You Hoplophobes have it 180 degrees out of phase. We Ammosexuals do NOT want to 'shoot up the neighborhood'. Thus, such things as Rule 4 of Firearms Safety: "BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT’S BEYOND IT"
Doesn't sound much like someone who wants to 'shoot up the neighborhood', does it?
Second: While it may sound like I am sarcastic in my original post, in some parts I am absolutely not. I've done enough reading to know that any time you take a human life, it really does mess with your head. Soldiers, police, and civilians who need to take a life have adverse effects for extended periods of time, often permanently. Humans are not hardwired to kill other humans.
So, for me, firearms ownership is a lot like having fire insurance on my house: I'm hoping to never need to use it, but I will be glad it's there if it's necessary.
However, for you to start your response with what you perceive is a denigration -- Ammosexuals -- tells me that my reasoned response will fall on deaf ears. Ergo, I do not write it for you, but for others who chance upon our exchange."
Possibly. I certainly felt nothing do so in Viet Nam. The enemy meant to kill me so I was happy to see the enemy killed. One very useful trick is to be psychologically prepared by wanting to kill the enemy and literally hating them to the point of dehumanization. With commies of a very different race that was easy. Today, I have come to hate the woke communists far more than any Viet. These events happen very quickly, in a matter of seconds so psychological preparation is vital. One thing to try and kill in your psych is the disgustingly true concern that the communist local governments will lawfare you for the crime of self defense. Just keep thinking (correctly) that the woke enemy is human garbage that merits death on general principals and work yourself up to a good white hot rage.
And yet, from what I hear, they love Americans in Vietnam today. They really don’t harbor ill-will towards Americans.
They still hate the French, though.

Maybe complications after the 1st one. I am not an enthusiast, but have had to take some lives in the Army so can at least describe some after effects.
Combat vets and police with more than one firefight can possibly find themselves on auto pilot in a pure kill or be killed event. The adrenaline is there and the sometimes crappy coming down from the adrenaline dump.
I've watched mates after a firefight shake so bad they couldn't hold anything and others just light up a cig and stare at the mess. Not a sign of cowardice, just chemical release of all the adrenaline dumped into every cell of their body.
believe it or not the typical thoughts after that is 'how the holy f'k did I live thru that' and not some earth shattering depth of despair and shame. Otherwise the millions of combat vets from all the wars would probably offed themselves in shame.
Not saying some are not emotionally ruined by the emotion of taking a life in self defense and some are.
You can't get a real feel about it from reading about it unless you get into that situation and end up killing someone in self defense. Then you can find out how you are wired to deal with the after effects.
Strange, as the number of French and French Empire soldiers in Indo China were small compared to the US presence. The Viets, including some of the commies, did like all the consumer junk Americans brought with them. The Viets certainly did not like negro American soldiers both for obvious reasons and from memories of the ape like French Senegalese soldiers.
