What an iris symbolizes. The spiritual meaning of irises
includes hope, faith, courage and wisdom,
all of which is something we could definitely use
at this time in our world.

Irises often features bluish-purple petals but actually
comes in a variety of colors including yellow,
pink, orange, brown, black and white.
Each color gives a specific meaning to these beautiful blooms.

In U.S. the purple iris is the state flower of Tennessee.
May is a perfect time to see irises in full bloom.
One of the best places to observe thousands of irises
and many dozens of different species is an iris garden near Salem, Oregon.

I saw a short special on this garden. It was spectacular. I looked up some YouTube vids. They sell the various bulbs but are currently sold out. You need to start ordering in late December and January for shipment in June. In addition to specific bulbs you can buy curated collections. Hundreds of varieties.

They are the largest growers/hybridizers in the US.
Cooley’s Iris being the next in size,
and they closed their gardens 2-3 years ago.
At one time a visit to tour Schreiners Iris Garden
was #4 on my “bucket list”. However times change and they are
no longer in the top 10 of desires listed.

Thanks for posting this!
It reminded me of my dad - who passed in 2015 at age 89.
He was an avid gardener.
He grew iris, day lilies, azaleas, rhododendron, forsythia, holly, etc.

When he proposed to my mom he said:

"Be my wife and I will plant you a big, beautiful flower garden!"

And he kept his word. (About an acre landscaped.)

And it was he who started me on the path of always
growing a vegetable garden - a path I still travel today!

I miss the old guy.

.

'Hershey Red' - my Dad's favorite variety of azalea -
