Lots of solar panels which may mean lots of batteries which means potentially high levels of hydrogen gas. Just my observation from the picture.

I’m not seeing smoke/fire damage.
What exploded?

Most solar batteries are sealed.

They aren't releasing any information on the cause yet, but to your point, doesn't look like smoke or fire.

Meth lab? Looks more like an explosion in the building, more so than the gas pump area.

Most solar batteries are sealed. Hydrogen gas leaks through everything and can accumulate to dangerous levels if batteries are in a confined space without ventilation.

If it leaks through everything it can’t accumulate!

Yeah, how the hell does a gas station just explode, outside of a fire?

Blocks from building blown out onto street.

Meth lab? Looks more like an explosion in the building, more so than the gas pump area. Perhaps some clever cooker decided the smells of a gas station would mask the solvent smells of a meth lab?

Well, this is Ireland 🇮🇪, and they have a history of “explosive” behavior.

If it leaks through everything it can’t accumulate! Differential rates of leakage from a small container into a large compartment will create temporary accumulations in the larger compartment. The larger compartment at lower pressure will leak at a slower rate.
If you hit the correct ratio of free hydrogen to free oxygen in the larger compartment, you are ready for an explosive detonation at the first glimmer of static electricity. Or the turn of a light switch.
That is why rooms containing high-power lithium batteries must be ventilated.

But over a much larger area.

In all seriousness, prayers to the victims' families. Tragic incident. If I recall, Applegreen is a big convivence store chain.
