KGO Radio (San Francisco) ends news-talk format, will relaunch with sports betting

I nearly forgot the speculation a few months ago that licenses would not be allowed for stations that presented right wing or moderately conservative talk. They called it fake news like the social media czars do.

Agreed. It is a bit harder in football because of the number of players, and the amount of scrutiny by the coaches. The refs, on the other hand, can plausibly call holding (OL or D-backfield) on almost any play. Perhaps an OLineman in his last year might let someone through if he needs a fast buck.

Basketball? Easy peasy by refs or players.

Baseball? If a non-contender and if player has guaranteed contract, maybe. Umps have less leeway for bad calls as balls and strikes are closely monitored by computer.

When I got to The Bay Area, my first exposure to KGO was Michael Krasny, with Lee Rodgers being on before Krasny.

I can remember when Bernie was given the full-time slot.

Today, people listen to podcasts for their news and commentary, many that update daily.

Lots of people like to hear the best parts repeated or don't have anything else to do. Especially the retired and people with long commutes.

When Lee Rodgers was on KGO, he had the 7 pm - 10 pm weekday slot. On Monday nights, one hour of the show was “Monday Night Fights,” where Rodgers would debate Bernie Ward on various issues.
