ESPECIALLY if the grid is down and it is not possible to recharge.Bear in mind that if the grid is down, most gas stations are down too. Electric power is required to power the pumps that deliver gasoline from underground pumps to the gas pump. And the gas pumps won't be working either.

True but a 25 gallon gas tank will last a lot longer than a full battery.
