I think we part ways on the nature of current Russian regime.
Is it evil, corrupt, brutal? Of course it is. Is it an ideological, existential enemy as was the Soviet Union, I don’t believe so.
Soviet ideological zealotry led them to foment trouble around the world: from Korea to Africa to Vietnam to Cuba and they got a lot good American soldiers killed along the way. So yes, payback in the Ukraine is well deserved.
But I believe Putin’s Russia is a much less ambitious, non-ideological foe and seemingly unable to project power regionally, much less globally.
I also don’t believe Russia to be America’s natural enemy, the interregnum of the red czars - Lenin and Stalin notwhistanding.
