South Padre would be the best. Port Aransas next best.

South Padre Island is the only nice beach in Texas. The rest of the beaches have a lot of seaweed and brown water.

Keep driving, until you get to Destin, FL’s sugar white sand beach.
Unfortunately, Texas does not have pretty beaches, being on the dirty side of the Gulf.
Avoid Galveston, whatever you do.

If you have 4WD, try north padre island, all primitive, no electricity but beautiful blue water, great place to camp but you have to bring everything with you.

Don’t expect a lot of white sand.
Sand is more brownish.

Port Aransas has the best sand. Galveston is huge, but hard as concrete in places. Some pretty cool attractions in the city though. Corpus Christi’s beach seems more like broken shells than sand. South Padre Island used to be the place to go, but, IMO, it’s gone downhill over the years ... and it’s a very long drive to get there.

I’ve never been to South Padre Island, but I’ve heard its top notch.

Dad lives on South Padre Island, and my cousin lives close to Destin. We always go to my cousin’s for a beach vacation. Never understood the appeal of SPI beaches. Navarre Beach, Ft. Walton Beach, and Pensacola Beach are all great alternatives to Destin without as many tourists.

For the actual beach, South Padre or Port Aransas, Corpus Christi would be third.
For historic purposes, and some beach experience, go to Galveston, see The Strand and visit some historic homes open to the public, but for the beach, go to the midwest part of the island (west of Galveston City) and there are some pretty nice/decent beaches. If you go to the beach along Seawall Blvd, in Galveston, it is AWFUL!

Padre Island. North or South. I’d recommend South Padre Island.

Moved to Texas almost 40 years ago from the west coast. I love Texas, but I cannot recommend its beaches with the possible exception of S. Padre.

We prefer Port Aransas and Rockport. South Padre is pretty but really a long drive.
In September the kids are back in school and it is usually before the snowbirds arrive. You can walk for miles on the beach in Port Aransas. It’s close to Corpus if you want a city landing.
Rockport and Port A are also not far from San Antonio and the hill country (Boerne, Kerrville and Fredericksburg).
We’re friendly but carry...haaa!

The closer you get to the Mexican border the better. Galveston beach is about a 4 (scale of 1-10). If you plan to dig in the sand just don’t in Galveston. About 3 inches down and it is sludgy and greasy.

If it’s a white beach that you want, try White Sands National Monument, just a few miles west of El Paso.
No water, but miles of white beach…lol
