Any suggestions on “must see” sights in the Alps? We have 3 nights in Grindelwald, 3 nights in Zermatt, overnight in St. Mortiz, and 3 nights in Cortina. We’ll go to the Lauterbrunnen Valley, Jungfraujoch, Gornergrat, Riffelsee Lake, Tofana.

It has been 30 years since I have been there. There is a train from Grindelwald to a village at the base of the Eiger. I think it was called the Eigergletcher or something like that. Then there is a cog railroad that goes from there through a tunnel through the Eiger and Monch and comes out on top of the Jungfrau, though I never did that. There are two (I think) gallery windows where you can look out from the famous North Face of the Eiger. I think some climbers even start their climb from there so the windows must open.

In Zermatt bring walking shoes because there are no cars in town. There are plenty of hiking trails with restaurants that you can only get to by hiking, if you are into that. The Aidelweiss Restaurant is one you can only get to by hiking trail. There is a cable car up to the base of the Matterhorn where there are great views. Even climbers take the cable car. There is a “climber’s cemetary” in Zermatt. It was a place I hoped only to visit.

I hope you have a great trip. The trains in Switzerland were very clean and were a great way to see the country.
