You're giving Prescott Bush too much credit. He was simply the bagman for Brown Brothers Harriman, the Wall Street investment bank for which he worked. BBH was run by the Dulles brothers, John Foster and Allen.
During the 1930s, Wall Street funded both Hitler and Stalin, and sometimes a firm would finance both at the same time. BBH was funding Hitler when World War II broke out. Even after the official declaration of war, BBH sent money to Hitler. Upon being apprised of the situation, FDR called J. Edgar Hoover into his office and got John Foster Dulles on the phone. "Foster, if you don't stop sending money to Hitler, I'm going to send Edgar up there to New York to slap the cuffs on the whole lot of you. Don't you know there's a war on? Oh, and give Lucille my best."
Hoover, who was an excellent mimic, got years of mileage out of imitating FDR at those New York dinner parties that he and Clyde Tolson attended during the war years.
I well remember Bush41 making that crack about people finding out and have always wondered why it didn’t get a few more questions. Maybe Sam Donaldson had already retired? Just saying that, tho, told me he is/was dirty and I figgered we’d find out how, sooner or later.
